Eiza Gonzalez Boards ‘Fast & Furious’ Spin-Off ‘Hobbs & Shaw’

Variety reports Baby Driver star Eiza Gonzalez has joined the cast of the upcoming Fast & Furious spin-off Hobbs & Shaw in a “key role.”

According to the Hollywood trade, Gonzalez boards Universal’s upcoming spin-off as a last minute addition for an important, undisclosed role. Gonzalez joins Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Vanessa Kirby, and Idris Elba as the film continues principal photography. Gonzalez broke out in last year’s Baby Driver and will be seen in next year’s Alita: Battle Angel and recently joined the cast of Godzilla vs. Kong.

Plot details remain under wraps but the spin-off will feature an unlikely team-up between Johnson’s Hobbs and Statham’s Shaw after the franchise breakout’s discovered an undeniable chemistry in the eighth film of the main series, The Fate of the Furious.

Hobbs & Shaw is being directed by David Leitch (Deadpool 2) from a script written by franchise veteran Chris Morgan. Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz and Seven Bucks Productions’ Hiram Garcia are producing the film.

A spinoff of The Fate of the Furious, focusing on Johnson’s US Diplomatic Security Agent Luke Hobbs forming an unlikely alliance with Statham’s Deckard Shaw.

Hobbs & Shaw will hit theaters August 2, 2019.
