Universal is planning to move forward with a new strategy for their classic monster characters and Variety sources say The Handmaid’s Tale star Elisabeth Moss is in the “extremely early stages” of talks to join the retelling of The Invisible Man. The remake will be directed and written by Upgrade helmer Leigh Whannell, but previously announced lead star Johnny Depp is no longer portraying the Invisible Man.
In addition to her role on The Handmaid’s Tale, Elisabeth Moss is known for her work on The West Wing, Mad Men, and she can soon be seen in Jordan Peele’s horror film Us.
Universal’ Invisible Man reboot is part of the studios’ new plan to produce filmmaker-driven projects based on characters from their monsters legacy following the disastrous performance of 2017’s The Mummy. Leigh Whannell will also co-produce the film alongside Jason Blum, who is producing the reboot under his Blumhouse Productions banner.
