Evangeline Lilly Was Okay With Wasp Being Cut From ‘Captain America: Civil War’

Evangeline Lilly made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Hope Van Dyne in 2015’s Ant-Man. In the mid-credits scene for that film, her father Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) gave her the Wasp suit that was originally used by her mother Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer). Lilly wouldn’t reappear in the MCU until Ant-Man and the Wasp, but she almost appeared in Captain America: Civil War before ultimately getting cut.

However, Lilly was okay with being left out of the events of Captain America: Civil War while Paul Rudd returned to play Scott Lang/Ant-Man once again. Lilly recently explained why she was okay with being cut in an excerpt from the new book, Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years

“There was actually talk of me being in Captain America: Civil War, and I was a little bit worried about that because she would have been introduced in a story that has nothing to do with Hope or her first taking on the mantle of the Wasp. I would have been nervous and a bit disappointed that the first titled female Super Hero in the Marvel Universe wouldn’t get an origin film. Marvel Studios called me to say, ‘We’re not gonna use you in Civil War any more.’ and I thought, ‘Woo-hoo! That’s great!’ They said, ‘Let us explain, don’t be upset – we really want to give her an origin film. We want to give her a full film and to really make a moment of this.’ And I was way ahead of them already and very eager for that to happen!”

It makes sense in retrospect given the story of Ant-Man and the Wasp. It is nice to see Wasp get a proper introduction rather than just throwing her into the action of Captain America: Civil War already.

Were you hoping that Wasp would appear in Captain America: Civil War alongside Ant-Man? Do you prefer her proper debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp? Sound off in the comments below, and be sure to continue following Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news in the MCU.
