Every ‘Star Wars’ Film Is Coming To TNT

A major licensing deal has been made thanks to Turner, which owns the cable networks TNT and TBS. In a deal that is estimated at $200 million, every film in the Star Wars saga will air on TNT thanks to Turner having purchased the basic cable rights to the franchise.

The roster of films include the original trilogy which consists of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi, the prequel trilogy consisting of The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith, and the new Disney-era films The Force Awakens, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and three yet-to-be released films in the franchise.

In commemoration for this extraordinary deal, TNT will be airing the first six Star Wars films over the course of six consecutive nights beginning on Tuesday September 20. Meanwhile, The Force Awakens will air on TNT sometime in early 2018 whereas the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will air in 2019.

The TV rights to the 1977 classic, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope were earned through a separate deal with 20th Century Fox, which owns the film’s distribution rights. The other remaining Star Wars films are distributed by the Walt Disney Co. This way, Turner is the only basic cable company that now owns the rights to all 11 titles in the franchise.

What do you guys think of this news? Are you excited about seeing the Star Wars movies on TNT and TBS? Are you hyped that they are already going to start airing the first six films in the saga consecutively each night starting next Tuesday? Sound off in the comments below.
