Ewan McGregor Reveals Start Date & Episode Count For Obi-Wan Kenobi Series

Ewan McGregor revealed the episode count and production start date for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

Fifteen years after portraying Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as the Jedi Master in a new Disney+ series set between the events of the last sequel trilogy film and A New Hope. Details on the series are being kept under lock and key, but Ewan McGregor offered new production information during an interview with Men’s Journal.

As Ewan McGregor explained, production on the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will begin in the summer of 2020. Furthermore, Ewan McGregor revealed that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will consist of six episodes running an hour-long each before saying, “I’m not allowed to tell you anything about it.”

Directed by Deborah Chow from scripts written by Hossein Amini, Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series is just one of three officially announced Star Wars shows for Disney Plus. The Mandalorian is set to debut on the streaming service on November 12 with stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte. The series was written by Jon Favreau, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist is also on board as a co-executive producer.

An untitled Rogue One prequel centered on Cassian Andor is also in development with Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk reprising their respective roles. The Americans producer Stephen Schiff serves as showrunner and the series is expected to begin filming next year.
