‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’: Wyatt Russell On Fans Hating John Walker

The star knows you hate John Walker!

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier star Wyatt Russell opened up about fans hating John Walker in the new Disney Plus series.

Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has introduced a brand new version of Captain America in Wyatt Russell’s John Walker, fans have been very vocal online regarding Steve Rogers’ replacement. A lot of it stems from the expectation that Anthony Mackie‘s Sam Wilson would’ve immediately picked up the shield, but obviously the series has been exploring why he doesn’t feel ready to don the mantle of Captain America just yet. And when speaking to TheWrap, Wyatt Russell explained that he knew fans would dislike him.

Surprisingly, Wyatt Russell auditioned for Steve Rogers himself years ago, so it’s quite fitting that he’s joined the MCU as John Walker, who’s also known as U.S. Agent in the comics. When speaking to TheWrap about his role on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, the actor revealed that Walker is trying to get people to like his version of Cap but he’ll have to rethink how to do things. Take a look below.

“That’s the goal, I think people had a fun reaction. There’s elements to him where he wants to be able to do it without the super soldier serum. Just be that good. He does have those ideas in his head of wanting people to like him, like his version of Captain America. It sort of gets rained on and causes him to have to rethink how things are going to be done.”

Here is the official synopsis for the Marvel Studios series:

Following the events of “Avengers: Endgame,” Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) team up in a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience—in Marvel Studios’ “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.”

Directed by Kari Skogland from scripts written by showrunner Malcolm Spellman and Derek Kolstad, the series stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson / Falcon, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes / The Winter Soldier, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo, and Wyatt Russell as John Walker / U.S. Agent. Actors Desmond Chiam, Miki Ishikawa, Noah Mills, and Carl Lumbly have also been cast.
