It was announced earlier this week that Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Mary Elizabeth Winstead would join Margot Robbie’s Birds of Prey. Some fans were upset at the race bending of Black Canary and I hope this art sways them that Black Canary can be the same character no matter the color of her skin. Cathy Yan is set to direct the project from a script written by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson. The film will be produced by Sue Kroll under her Kroll & Co Entertainment banner along with Clubhouse Pictures’ Bryan Unkeless, and Robbie, who is set to reprise her role as Harley Quinn in the film. The Harley Quinn actress will be joined by Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell, who will be playing the Huntress and Black Canary respectively. Plot details remain under wraps however the film will feature Batman villain Black Mask as the primary antagonist.
Birds of Prey is one of the many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC Films, including The Batman, The Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Supergirl, New Gods, Nightwing, and a Deathstroke film.
