Director David Yates has revealed that the second Fantastic Beasts film will see Eddie Redmayne's Newt Scamander in another big capital city.
We’ve known for a while now that the second Fantastic Beasts film would see Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander in another big capital city (the first one takes place in New York), but Yates has now revealed the exact location in the latest issue of Empire. Speaking with the magazine, the director mentioned that the sequel will be set in Paris:
“It’s quite ambitious. [Production designer] Stuart [Craig] is unflappable and indefatigable, but when he saw the script for Beasts 2, he said, ‘Let me just think about it for a minute.’”
Details about the second Fantastic Beasts film are scarce at the moment, but seeing how Paris would like within J.K. Rowling’s ever-growing Wizarding World will no doubt be fascinating. It will also be interesting to see whether each film in the franchise will be set in an entirely different location and explore new ground outside some of the places we’ve already seen in the Harry Potter films.
We don’t know which characters will be returning alongside Redmayne’s Newt in the sequel, but we recently learned that Johnny Depp has joined the cast of the movie in a role that’s being kept under lock and key. The two will be joined by Zoe Kravitz, who will also appear in the first movie.
