‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ To Begin Filming Next Week Despite Coronavirus Concerns

The third film in the Fantastic Beasts franchise is expected to begin filming next week despite concerns regarding the coronavirus.

While Hollywood faces an unprecedented sea of delays and cancelations due to concerns regarding the spread of the novel coronavirus, Warner Bros. is moving forward with the production of Fantastic Beasts 3. The third film in the Fantastic Beasts franchise will continue the exploits of Newt Scamander, as he navigates the wizarding world during the early 20th century.

The news of Fantastic Beasts commencing production comes from Justin Kroll on Twitter, who previously confirmed that Warner Brothers’ other active productions such as The Batman, The Matrix 4, and King Richard would continue as planned.

Of course, as stated in the tweet, the studio could obviously change their mind if the coronavirus becomes a considerable deterrent in their eyes. If the Harry Potter spin-off is to remain on track with filming, it could easily fulfill its expected release date of November 21, 2021. The third film in the Fantastic Beasts franchise will bring Newt Scamander and his cohorts to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The South American country currently has more than 100 cases of coronavirus, though no deaths have been reported at the time of this writing. It’s unclear at this junction where filming for Fantastic Beasts 3 will begin.

Details for the third film in the franchise are slim to none. In the meantime, check out the official synopsis for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald:

At the end of the first film, the powerful dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander. But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise wizards and witches up to rule over all non-magical beings. In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

Directed by David Yates from a script written by J. K. Rowling, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Zoë Kravitz, Callum Turner, Claudia Kim, William Nadylam, Kevin Guthrie, Jude Law, and Johnny Depp.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD.

Fantastic Beasts 3 is expected to theaters November 12, 2021.
