Warner Bros. has officially announced that Sherlock Holmes and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword star Jude Law has signed on to play a young version of the iconic Harry Potter character in the spin-off series.
In a statement, David Yates, the director behind the last four Harry Potter films as well as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and its upcoming sequel, had the following to say about the casting:
“Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him. I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life.”
Per the press release, Fantastic Beasts 2 finds Dumbledore long before his years as the Headmaster at Hogwarts, during his time as the school’s Transfiguration professor.
Law is joing a star-studded cast that includes Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Johnny Depp and Zoe Kravitz. The film is set to begin production this summer, so make sure to keep checking back for more updates.
