‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ Sequel Already Written

Audiences worldwide will soon be making a triumphant return to J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World. This November, we will be on an adventure with magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) as he visits New York with his mysterious suitcase full of magical creatures in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The film will be the first onscreen story since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 back in 2011.

Of course, Warner Bros. hopes to make more films in this new franchise branched out from the Harry Potter films, with Fantastic Beasts set to be a trilogy. Well, it looks like that we are ensured the next chapter, since Rowling has apparently written it already according to director David Yates who was just interviewed for his latest film, The Legend of Tarzan.

We’ve done the first one, she’s written the second one, she’s got ideas for the third one. No one quite has ownership of them quite yet, in terms of having a relationship with the material, other than the relationship they’ll have with the movie when it comes out.

Warner Bros. already has two sequels set for releases on November 16, 2018 and November 20, 2020. With two years away, it seems likely that pre-production might already be taking place for the first sequel. From this information, it also seems likely that Yates will be returning to the director’s chair as well.

I do have a feeling that this first  Fantastic Beasts film can serve as a standalone story that can still leave a path for it’s last two stories in the trilogy to be told. 2016 is looking to be a great year for Potterheads with The Wizarding World of Harry Potter now open at Universal Studios Hollywood, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child finally opening to the public in London, and now Fantastic Beasts this coming November. It’s truly a magical year for us muggles.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in theaters November 18.
