‘Fast And Furious 9’ Production Halted After Stuntman Injured In On-Set Accident

Production on Fast and Furious 9 was halted for the day following an on-set accident that left a stuntman with serious injuries.

Production on Fast and Furious 9 began in June at Leavesden Studios with a targeted release date for next summer. On Monday, an air ambulance was called to Leavesden Studios after an accident involving a crew member occurred during the filming of Fast and Furious, which left a stuntman with what’s being described as a serious head injury. A spokesperson from Universal informed The Hollywood Reporter that the accident prompted the studio to halt production on Fast and Furious 9 for the day:

“We had an injury on the set of Fast 9 today in Leavesden with one of our stuntmen. We have halted production for the day to focus on this situation.”

A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service explained the accident involved a stuntman falling and sustaining a head injury:

“An ambulance, three ambulance officer vehicles and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were called to Leavesden Studios shortly before midday today (July 22), following reports of a man injured in a fall. One patient with a serious head injury was transported to the Royal London Hospital by air ambulance.”

It is currently unknown if any of the principal cast members were on set during the accident.

Directed by Justin Lin from a script written by Daniel Casey, Fast and Furious 9 star Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, John Cena, Helen Mirren, and Charlize Theron.

Fast and Furious 9 is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on May 22, 2020.
