‘The Batman’ Co-Writer & ‘Shazam!’ Director Team Up For Amazon’s ‘Fear Agent’

The Batman co-writer Mattson Tomlin and Shazam! director David F. Sandberg have joined forces with Seth Rogen to adapt Fear Agent as a television series for Amazon.

The Hollywood Reporter sources say Amazon has won a bidding war for the rights to Rick Remender’s Fear Agent comic series, beating out Peacock, HBO Max, and TNT. Now, Amazon has enlisted Shazam! director David F. Sandberg to direct and executive produce a series based on the Fear Agent comics.

David Sandberg is on board to helm Amazon’s Fear Agent pilot. Seth Rogen and his partners at Point Grey Productions, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver, will serve as executive producers on Fear Agent alongside Matt Tolmach and David Manpearl. Fear Agent writer Rick Remender and co-creator Tony Moor are also on board as executive producers with Lotta Losten.

In addition to penning the script for The Batman, Mattson Tomlin, will write the Fear Agent pilot for Amazon. Meanwhile, David F. Sandberg is gearing up for a sequel to Shazam!. Warner Bros. and DC’s The Batman is scheduled to be released on June 25, 2021, while the Shazam! sequel is slated to hit theaters on April 1, 2022.

According to the outlet, The Batman co-writer, the Shazam! director, Seth Rogen, and all involved intend to keep the “offbeat” tone of the comics for Amazon adaptation. The Longline for Fear Agent reads as follows:

Interstellar invaders. Time travel. Clones of clones of clones, and lots of whiskey. Whether he’s battling the scourge of of space, going back in time to stop the alien invasion that changed earth forever, or winning his ex-wife back, there’s nothing that Heath Huston won’t do to try to right the wrongs and gets his family back. He is, after all, the last Fear Agent.
