‘Saw’ Writers To Pen Upcoming ‘Final Destination’ Reboot

Time to cheat death once more, as the writing duo behind Saw IVSaw 3D have been brought on to pen the upcoming reboot of the Final Destination series.

Based on a report from The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriters Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, who first came onto the Saw franchise with the fourth installment and stayed on through Saw 3D, will be scripting the horror reboot to hopefully restart the franchise that started way back in 2000 under New Line Cinema. Given Melton and Dunstan’s history with horror- not just with the Saw franchise, but also the Feast films and Piranha 3DD– they’re no strangers to horror.

You remember the scene in Scream 4 when Kirby rattles off a list of remakes of groundbreaking horror films? Served as a commentary about how, in a short amount of time, Hollywood had mined its own archives to remake, reboot, and restart its own horror films. And now here we are years later with the Final Destination franchise, which has not had a new film in the series since 2011 with Final Destination 5.

Some horror remakes tend to catch on with audiences, like the recent IT film. It doesn’t always happen, mind you, but some follow-ups or films based on horror films that you remember can do well both at the box office and with audiences and critics alike. Think the recent Halloween film, for example. So it’s indeed possible as long as you have the right creative forces and imagination behind the project.

With that being said, what do you think about a return to the Final Destination franchise? Do you think that this series warrants a reboot or remake at this point in its lifespan? And what do you think about the Saw writers being responsible for helping breathe new life into the franchise? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
