First ‘Bumblebee’ Reactions Roll Out With Positive Results

The Transformers live-action film franchise may be a box office juggernaut, but when it comes to its reception with critics, it’s not so warm. It seems as though with each new entry since the first film in 2007, the reception somehow gets progressively worse. However, the newest spinoff Bumblebee may change that tide.

Bumblebee rolls out into theaters just in time for the holiday season, and some have had the opportunity to have an early look at the film. So far, reactions are pretty positive on the new standalone film starring the beloved Autobot:

Finally! After years of Michael Bay churning out all of these Transformers films, it’s nice to see someone else like Travis Knight put their own spin on the franchise. Hopefully, this will bode well for upcoming entries in the series, given that Bumblebee is some sort of a reboot in the franchise.

Directed by Travis Knight from a script written by Christina Hodson, the film stars Hailee Steinfeld, Pamela Adlon, John Cena, Stephen Schneider, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Jason Ian Drucker, Kenneth Choi, Ricardo Hoyos, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, and Grace Dzienny.

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

Bumblebee will be released in theaters on December 21, 2018.
