In addition, Lionsgate has also revealed the new Hellboy will arrive in theaters January 11, 2019. Plot details are still under wraps but the reboot — like the previous films from Guillermo Del Toro — will once again be based on the Dark Horse Comic created by Mike Mignola in 1993 about a demonic hero who became the world’s greatest paranormal investigator while combating occult threats for the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense.
UPDATE: Lionsgate has since retracted the release date for the Hellboy reboot, leaving it unclear as to when the film will hit theaters.
You can check out the first look at David Harbour as Hellboy below.
Lionsgate will be distributing the Millennium Films production with Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin producing. Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Entertainment will also produce. Principal photography is expected to commence soon with filming taking place in both the UK and Bulgaria. The film is being directed by Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones).
The film stars David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Hellboy, Ian McShane as Hellboy’s adoptive father, American Honey breakout Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan, Penelope Mitchell (Hemlock Grove) as Ganeida, Daniel Dae Kim as Major Ben Daimio, and Milla Jovovich as the film’s villain, the Blood Queen.
