The first official screenings for the upcoming Justin Lin film, Star Trek Beyond were held tonight and despite a review embargo set for next Wednesday on the 20th, Paramount Pictures has allowed audiences to share their reactions via social media. So far, the buzz on the upcoming sci-fi adventure is mostly positive – which should hopefully leave Trekkies at ease.
Star Trek Beyond had its Australian premiere last week. It is set to have its official World Premiere next Wednesday kicking off San Diego Comic Con. It will be the first time that a film will be projected on an IMAX screen at a premiere outdoors. Lucky fans will also have a wonderful ocean view nearby. Damn, talk about boldly going where no man has gone before.
After stopping off at Starbase Earhart, a remote outpost on the fringes of Federation space, the USS Enterprise, halfway into their five-year mission, is destroyed by a powerful, unstoppable wave of unknown aliens. With the crew stranded on a unknown planet and with no apparent means of rescue, they find themselves in conflict with a new ruthless enemy who has a well-earned hatred of the Federation and what it stands for.
Directed by Justin Lin, Star Trek Beyond is the third film in the rebooted Star Trek movie series, now under the official name of the Kelvin Timeline. The film stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoë Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Sofia Boutella, and Idris Elba. It is based upon Star Trek created by Gene Roddenberry and is written by Simon Pegg & Doug Jung.
Star Trek Beyond blasts in theaters and IMAX from July 22.
