Lucasfilm has released the first episode of the new 2-D animated female-led series of shorts Star Wars Forces of Destiny.

Star Wars Forces of Destiny is a series of eight shorts in total that will highlight the female heroes of the Star Wars galaxy as it explores everyday heroism and crosses over with the films of the franchise. The series will include characters such as Rey, Jyn Erso, Ahsoka Tano, Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, Padme Amidala, Maz Kanata and Princess Leia.

The first episode titled “Sands of Jakku” features Rey and BB-8 and takes us back to the junkyard planet during the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The Scavenger and the beloved ball droid find themselves in danger as a Nightwatcher worm which was seen at the beginning of Episode VII attempts to eat BB-8.

You can check it out below.

Star Wars Forces of Destiny features the voice cast of Daisy Ridley as Rey, Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Tiya Sircar as Sabine Wren, Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano, Vanessa Marshall as Hera Syndulla, and Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata. In addition, Shelby Young will take on the role of Princess Leia due to the untimely passing of Carrie Fisher and Catherine Taber is taking over for Natalie Portman as the voice of Padmé Amidala.

Today’s premiere of the first episode will be followed by the series premiere on the Disney Channel July 9. The series is also set to be joined by an additional eight shorts in a pair of TV specials airing on the Disney Channel in the fall.
