Both Tom Cavanaugh (Harrison Wells) and show runner Marc Guggenheim have spoken about the roles that Wells and Diggle will be playing this year, and how it might affect the two shows.
“I played the original Wells on the beach with Tess. This guy won’t be that guy. If the show has strengths, I would argue that we’re not repeating ourselves generally, and specifically I’m trying not to repeat myself.”
So it looks like we’ll be getting another completely different version of the brilliant scientist on ‘The Flash‘. Lets just hope he doesn’t throw things into reverse. However, at least this prevents the show from becoming to stale – they’re not staying still for long. Marc Guggenheim went on to talk about Diggle’s character arc over the course of ‘Arrow‘ Season Five.
“He is searching for that moral compass that he lost at the end of season 4. He discovers that Chechnya is the wrong place for him to discover his moral compass. Things do not go according to plan for him, and there’s something that happens in the first three episodes that is fairly significant and it’s the circumstances that will ultimately bring him back to Star City, but he’s not going to be the same. He’s not going to be able to live his life the way he had been living it before.”
Supposedly this will also result in a very Oliver/Diggle centred fourth episode. Their relationship has always been a rocky one, as each of them has hidden secrets from the other. They are something of a brotherly pair, but brothers don’t always get along fine. Whatever the case may be – this next year is going to be an interesting one for fans of the two shows.
