The episode centered on Team Flash’s attempt to access the memories of Cicada’s niece, Grace Gibbons, by entering her mind in hopes of waking her up and bringing an end to the villain’s meta-human killing spree. Before using the machine designed to enter someone’s mind, Sherloque Wells warns that when two people use the device together, they will accidentally access each other’s memories. The detective offers an example by recounting the time he saw the memory of his fourth wife sleeping with his partner, Watson, which hindered their efforts to solve a case involving Jervis Tetch, a.k.a. The Mad Hatter.
In the comics, The Mad Hatter is one of Batman’s long-time enemies, who uses and invents technological mind-controlling devices to control his victims.
