‘The Flash’: Ezra Miller Compares The DCEU Speed Force To ‘Star Wars’ Force

When The Flash made a cameo appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, fans were given a brief glimpse of the Speed Force. While various comics and even The Flash television series have depicted the Speed Force, the DC Extended Universe has yet to fully offer their take on the extra-dimensional energy responsible for powering speedsters. While promoting Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, star Ezra Miller spoke with the #Mills YouTube channel about the concept of the Speed Force and compared it to another familiar science-fiction energy.

When asked what the Speed Force means to his version of Barry Allen, Miller cited dance choreographer Martha Graham to explain his concept of the energy.

“Martha Graham, one of my greatest inspirations, said in a series…in a quote that ‘there is a vitality, a life force, a quickening’, and for me, the idea of a quickening, the idea that the whole universe as we know it is essentially this composition of things at different speeds, is an interesting idea.”

Miller elaborated, comparing the Speed Force of the DCEU to the Force of the Star Wars saga.

“So the Speed Force being like The Force [from Star Wars] in the sense that it’s a dimensional reality that’s manipulating others, almost like a gravitational wave that manipulates space-time; that is what’s interesting for my Barry Allen, and for me what becomes interesting is the human being who is suddenly coming into contact and rapidly starting to merge with the force, and what that is for a human being.”

Ezra Miller will star as Barry Allen/The Flash in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, scheduled to be released on November 17, 2017.

The Flash solo film is scheduled to be released on March 16, 2018.
