The standalone Flash film was expected to begin production in March of next year, but the start date has now been delayed until late 2019 due to the development of the script and Ezra Miller’s commitment the third Fantastic Beasts film, which is scheduled to begin filming in July 2019. This is far from the first delay for the film and while some fans are willing to wait as long as it takes for the creative team to develop a script worthy of the DC hero, others are frustrated and even questioning whether the project will see the light of day or if it will land in development hell.

The Flash has changed directors several times as The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were initially attached to helm the project and even developed the story for the film before departing to work on Solo: A Star Wars Story for Lucasfilm. Seth Grahame-Smith, who penned the original script, was brought on board to helm the project before exiting and over creative differences. Dope director Rick Famuyiwa later replaced Grahame-Smith before leaving the project for the same reasons.
Game Night directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are currently set to direct The Flash movie from a script written by King Arthur: Legend of the Sword scribe Joby Harold. Ezra Miller and Kiersey Clemons are committed to star as the titular hero and Iris West, respectively.
