The Flash & Superman Films Lose Momentum At DC Films

Deadline is reporting that both Superman and The Flash films have lost momentum.

In a new report from Deadline that focuses on the rise of female superhero films, the outlet released a few tidbits about the state of the DCEU going forward and while one part of it was good news about there possibly being a Zatanna film, the other could be taken as bad for Superman and The Flash fans.

In the report Deadline states:

There’s also been talk of films for Supergirl, Zatanna and Batgirl, while male-hero movies like the long-promised Flash solo film or a new Superman installment have lost momentum.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as rumors surfaced back in September that Henry Cavill will no longer reprise his role as Superman. Meanwhile, Variety reported back in October that production on DC’s long-in-development standalone movie centered on The Flash was being pushed back to late 2019.

The Flash film was expected to kick off production in March of next year, however, due to development of the script, the project will not be ready and with Ezra Miller scheduled to begin work on the third installment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise in July, filming will likely not commence until late 2019. Both Miller and Kiersey Clemons are committed to star as the titular hero and his love interest Iris West in the film.

A timetable for both The Flash and Superman was never set in stone, however, the production for The Flash was expected to be in tow following DC’s Shazam!, Wonder Woman 1984, and Todd Phillips’ Joker movie which is currently filming in Newark, New Jersey.

Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the DC Films franchise as we learn it.
