Like the similarly titled Batman: Year One, The Flash: Year One will focus on the early days of the character as a superhero. It will tell us how he got his powers and why it is he is able to keep such an optimistic despite his past traumas. And apparently it was one that Williamson has wanted to do since he first got the book:
Ever since I got the job on The Flash, I’ve wanted to tell this one story. I kept asking for it, asking for it, asking for it.
It was not revealed how many issues the story would run but the teaser that was Tweeted by Williamson indicated that Barry Allen’s journey as The Flash was not a painless one. In the Tweet he teased the release date as spring of 2019:
In the Flash title in spring of 2019…Flash Year One! With @MrHowardPorter!!
With the release date was a single image with Barry Allen on top of a giant pile of shoes, indicating that he goes through quite a few before getting his speed under control. You can see the full Tweet below:
From the look of things, Williamson has a very complicated journey in store for The Flash.
