Former Superman Actor D.J. Cotrona Shares New BTS ‘Shazam!’ Image

While not the DC hero he had originally anticipated playing, we now have a better look at former Superman actor D.J. Cotrona’s second shot in the DC Universe as adult Pedro Peńa in Shazam! thanks to a new behind-the-scenes photo.

The best part about DC’s most recent film, Shazam!, is the idea of family. Also, when the whole family gets together to kick some magical demon butt in the film’s finale. The cast of Billy Batson’s family after they’ve been Shazam-ed is good fun, and now we have a closer look at D.J. Cotrona as the adult version of Billy’s adoptive brother, Pedro Peña, rocking a sweet beard and a green version of the Shazam get up.

You can see the full image of the former Superman actor below:

Thanks to an Instagram post by stunt man, Alex Armbruster, we have a better look at actor D.J. Cotrona in the muscled up suit. Once upon a time, D.J. Cotrona was supposed to play Superman in the first attempt at a live-action Justice League film in George Miller’s (Mad Max: Fury Road) canceled Justice League: Mortal. The former Superman actor, now returning to the world of DC films, seems to have had a lot of fun with the role and we’re sure to see more of D.J. Cotrona’s Pedro Peńa alongside the rest of the Shazam family in the future.

Which of Shazam’s powers would you want if you could only have one? Would you have liked to see D.J. Cortona play Superman? Let us know in the comments down below!

Here’s the official synopsis for the movie Shazam!:

“We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).”

Zachary Levi’s Shazam! is now playing in theaters. Keep an eye on Heroic Hollywood for the latest news from the DC Extended Universe.
