Via CNBC, Morgan Stanley analyst Benjamin Swinburne spoke on Disney’s Fox buyout:
“2019 is likely a transformational year for Disney.”
Swinburne continues:
“Stepping back from the complexity, it will exit the year in a different place than it begins. Significant investments in content, theme parks, and M&A [marketing and advertising] weigh on near-term earnings, but should set up the business for long-term growth.”
Morgan Stanley predicts that Disney will wrap up its merger with Fox by early March. This will give the house that Mickey built a large advantage in the world of digital content media and distribution. It will also help fill out the company’s Disney+ direct-to-consumer service when it launches later this year. The deal will allow Disney, who purchased Marvel for $4 billion back in 2009, to integrate previously Fox-owned characters such as Deadpool, The Fantastic Four, and the X-Men into the well-established Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Disney will also take on other popular properties such as The Planet of the Apes, James Cameron’s Avatar, as well as the long-lasting animated comedy The Simpsons.
