A memorable scene in Friends has Matthew Perry’s character, Chandler Bing, dancing around in a celebratory manner while dressed in a suit. Matthew Perry jokingly implied that he was the inspiration for the often-discussed scene in Joker, in which Arthur really starts to embrace his new persona by dancing down the steps in celebration instead of trudging gloomily up and down them, like he did earlier in the movie.

As it stands, the Friends comparison is not new, since there are plenty of other memes to be had about the scene that have likely pointed the similarity out already. Nonetheless, it’s amusing when the actor himself gets in on the joke.

The movie is not part of the DC Extended Universe, and seems to play into Warner Bros.’s interests of making creator-driven superhero movies over necessarily building a hyper-connected shared universe… At least for the time being.
