The star voiced his disappointment about the missed opportunity of his Ghost Rider series.
Many will remember when Gabriel Luna delivered a stunning version of Ghost Rider in the fourth season of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, and fans were understandably disappointed when Hulu decided not to move forward with his solo series in 2019. Luna recently came out in support of Anthony Mackie’s criticism of the MCU, as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star called the studio out for the lack of diversity behind the camera.
Gabriel Luna quoted the Variety article reporting on Anthony Mackie’s comments, expressing his disappointment that his Ghost Rider series was ready to go and they “still couldn’t get it made.” He also pointed out that films with Latino leads make up less than 3% of the industry. Hopefully, with Mackie reprising his role as Sam Wilson A.K.A. The Falcon in the Disney Plus series, Marvel Studios will pay even closer attention to diversity both in front of the camera and behind it.
Are you still disappointed Gabriel Luna didn’t get to star in a Ghost Rider series? What do you think about Anthony Mackie’s previous comments about the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Sound-off in the comments below!
As previously mentioned, Gabriel Luna starred as Ghost Rider in the fourth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for multiple episodes. This version of Robbie Reyes was granted the Spirit of Vengeance’s powers after sustaining fatal injuries in a gang shootout that also left his younger brother paralyzed. With his newfound powers, Gabriel Luna’s Ghost Rider exacts revenge on the gang members who wounded his brother and other people he believes deserves his wrath. Eventually, Gabriel Luna’s Ghost Rider crosses paths with a self-exiled Daisy Johnson and later assists the S.H.I.E.L.D. team in defeating a supernatural threat.
