Gail Simone Wants To Write ‘Birds Of Prey’ Spin-Off With Jurnee Smollett-Bell’s Black Canary

Comic book writer Gail Simone expressed her desire to see a Birds of Prey spin-off film with Jurnee Smollett-Bell’s Black Canary.

While Black Canary has been prominent in the Arrowverse, many fans are still looking forward to Jurnee Smollett-Bell’s portrayal of the character in Birds of Prey. Comic book writer Gail Simone appears to be another fan who is excited to see Jurnee Smollett-Bell’s Black Canary in Birds of Prey.

Gail Simone has already showed her love for Jurnee Smollett-Bell’s Black Canary in the past. Gail Simone has now said on her Twitter that she would like to write a full on Black Canary Birds of Prey spin-off film with Huntress, Savant, and Creote. Jurnee Smollett-Bell’s Black Canary certainly opens up the doors for what we can see down the road in the DCEU. Plus, the Birds of Prey footage we’ve seen so far tease that we will see plenty of Black Canary’s abilities in the film. You can check out Gail Simone’s tweet below.

Do you think we will get any Birds of Prey spin-offs if the film is successful? If so, what spin-off would you like to see? Comment below!

Here is the official synopsis for Birds of Prey:

“You ever hear the one about the cop, the songbird, the psycho and the mafia princess? Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is a twisted tale told by Harley herself, as only Harley can tell it. When Gotham’s most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis, and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz, put a target on a young girl named Cass, the city is turned upside down looking for her. Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya’s paths collide, and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down.”

Directed by Cathy Yan from a script penned by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Ali Wong, Robert Catrini, and Michael Masini have also been cast in undisclosed roles.

Birds of Prey will be released in theaters on February 7, 2020.
