Gal Gadot Says ‘Wonder Woman’ Solo Film Is ‘Pretty Dark’

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice set a serious, rather humorless tone for the true advent of the D.C. Extended Universe and Wonder Woman herself Gal Gadot confirmed to Digital Spy while doing that film’s promotional rounds that her origin film coming to theaters next year, while it would have “moments of humor” is ” pretty dark.”

“In Batman v Superman, you get a glimpse of who she is but not where she comes from. In Wonder Woman, this would be the first time we ever tell the coming-of-age story of how Diana becomes Wonder Woman. It’s very interesting. It has moments of humour, but it’s pretty dark.”

Gadot went on to say she is most excited for audiences to experience how Wonder Woman came to be, since it is not nearly as well-known as the oft-retold origins of fellow D.C. Trinity members Superman and Batman.

“We all saw before the beautiful coming of age of Batman, Spider-Man, Superman. We don’t know anything about Wonder Woman. We go back 100 years to when she’s more naïve. She’s this young idealist. She’s pure. Very different to the experienced, super-confident, grown-up woman you’ve seen.”

Wonder Woman is directed by Patty Jenkins (Monster) and also stars Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Said Taghmaoui, Lucy Davis, and Elena Anaya. It chronicles Diana Prince’s journey from the isolated Amazonian island of Themiscyra to the battlefields of World War I (1914-1918), with bookends set in the present day.

The film recently moved from its release date from June 23 of next year to June 2 and is currently filming near London. Gadot will next segue directly into Justice League – Part 1, which starts filming this month to hit theaters November 17, 2017.
