Gal Gadot Says Wonder Woman’s ‘Abandon Mankind’ Story Was Wrong Choice

'Justice League' star Gal Gadot explains why it was a bad creative choice to have Wonder Woman turn her back on mankind in 'Batman v Superman'.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice introduced audiences to Wonder Woman as a heroine who had turned her back on mankind after witnessing a century of horrors, which seemed odd to most fans, especially after the character’s first standalone film concluded with the classic DC Comics heroine declaring her intention to protect the world. Now, actress Gal Gadot stated that the decision to have Diana abandon humanity was a mistake while promoting Justice League during a press event.

Gal Gadot stated that the decision to have Diana abandon mankind was not the right creative choice and explained why the decision was made to reverse that storyline:

“We realized that, actually, there is no way that Wonder Woman will ever give up on mankind. The reasons why she left the island was because she wanted to make their lives better and safer. They are her calling. So I’m giving you a very honest answer. Sometimes in a creative process, you establish something that is not necessarily the right decision, but then you can always correct it and change it.”

Wonder Woman will return to protect humanity once again as one of the founding members of the Justice League.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Amber Heard, Jeremy Irons, J.K. Simmons, Willem Dafoe, Connie Nielsen, Julian Lewis Jones and Ciarán Hinds.

Justice League will be released in theaters on November 17, 2017.
