Gal Gadot Recalls Her First Wonder Woman Fan Encounter

Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot recalls her first day in costume and her first fan encounter on the set of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

It’s hard to believe that Wonder Woman is only one month away from hitting theaters, but it’s even harder to believe that it has taken 75 years for the icon to get her own movie in the first place.

While speaking with Variety for their piece on the character’s 75th-anniversary, Gal Gadot recalled her first day in full costume on the set of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and her first fan encounter as Wonder Woman. She was approached by a little girl, the niece of a crew member, who handed the actress a drawing she did of the superheroine, as well as a note:

“She wrote that she wished me luck and she was Wonder Woman’s No. 1 fan,” recalls Gal Gadot. “I keep it with me.”

Deborah Snyder, producer of Batman v Superman as well as Wonder Woman, also shared her memories from that first day on set, saying that she teared up seeing the iconic character finally come to life:

“This girl and my daughter, who is now 5, will be able to have a female superhero as a role model. They’ll have this strong character to look up to.”

Directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Connie Nielson as Queen Hippolyta, Robin Wright as General Antiope, Lisa Loven Kongsli as Menalippe, Danny Huston as General Erich Ludendorff, David Thewlis as Sir Patrick Morgan, Elena Anaya as Doctor Maru, Ewen Bremner as Charlie, Saïd Taghmaoui as Sameer and Eugene Brave Rock as the Chief. Here is the official synopsis:

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers… and her true destiny.

Wonder Woman hits theaters June 2, 2017.
