The source of this is known scooper DanielRPK, who shared today that, per his sources, a number of upcoming Fox X-Men and Marvel projects are on the cutting room floor, among them Brian K. Vaughn’s Silver Surfer project, Noah Hawley’s Doctor Doom film, the Kitty Pryde film and, of course, the Channing Tatum Gambit film. Here’s the tweet discussing this:
It is interesting the number of snags that the Gambit film in particular seemed to have. It went through a number of directors, Simon Kinberg described it not too long ago as a love story with elements of a heist film, it had a supporting cast including the likes of Lizzy Caplan, and the film’s prospects seemed to gain its second wind in light of the successes of both Deadpool and Logan. So for the film to apparently be completely scrapped is no doubt disappointing for those involved.
Chances are this could be the nature of the business and the fact that many of Fox’s assets will soon be absorbed into the House of Mouse whenever the actual Disney/Fox acquisition concludes. But as of right now, if DanielRPK’s source is to be believed, Gambit is done for. Perhaps official word could come from the studio later on, but again, we’ll have to wait and see. But for right now, what do you think about this possibly being the end of the line for the Channing Tatum Gambit project, Doctor Doom and the other X-Men films?
Would you still want to see him in the role at some point in the future? And what do you think about other planned spin-offs like X-23 or Multiple Man? Again, right now, it’s all rumor territory, so take this all with a massive adamantium grain of salt. Let us know your thoughts on this in the comments below.
