HBO’s ‘Game Of Thrones’ Wins Best Drama Emmy For Final Season

HBO’s Game of Thrones season eight won Outstanding Drama Series at the 2019 Emmy Awards.

While the final season of Game of Thrones might’ve divided fans and critics, it managed to snag the Outstanding Drama award at the 2019 Emmys. The HBO show was up against Better Call Saul, Killing Eve, Bodyguard, Ozark, Pose, Succession and This Is Us, but Game of Thrones came out on top. Given the cinematic scale of the final season, it isn’t surprising that HBO’s Game of Thrones took home the big prize.

HBO’s Game of Thrones also snagged another award thanks to Peter Dinklage. His role as Tyrion Lannister earned him Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, his fourth time winning the award. He’s been a fan favourite since Game of Thrones began, so it’s great to see him rewarded once more. The show didn’t quite clean up all the awards as it usually does, with leading stars Kit Harrington and Emilia Clarke both losing out on Outstanding Actor and Actress respectively. However, Game of Thrones won a total of 12 Emmys for its eighth and final season.

Do you think HBO’s Game of Thrones should have been recognised more for its final season? Let us know in the comments.

Game of Thrones stars Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister, Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, Kit Harington as Jon Snow, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Liam Cunningham as Ser Davos Seaworth, Carice van Houten as Melisandre, Rory McCann as Sandor “The Hound” Clegane, Maisie Williams as Arya Stark, Conleth Hill as Varys, Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy, John Bradley as Samwell Tarly, Gwendoline Christie as Brienne of Tarth, Kristofer Hivju as Tormund Giantsbane, Isaac Hempstead Wright as Bran Stark, Jerome Flynn as Bronn, Iain Glen as Jorah Mormont, Hannah Murray as Gilly.
