‘Game of Thrones’ Creators Developing ‘Lovecraft’ Film For DC Comics

Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are developing a a film based on the Lovecraft comic from DC.

Based upon the 2004 comic from DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint, Lovecraft chronicles the life of author H.P. Lovecraft, who is best known for creating the Cthulhu cosmic entity. The project, currently untitled, will be produced by the Game of Thrones creators who recently left Star Wars. According to Deadline, who first reported on the Lovecraft projected, the duo has been eyeing the DC project since they began working on Game of Thrones. Now that they’ve got a bit of free time, the Game of Thrones duo want to direct their energy towards it.

The Lovecraft comic, which was written by Keith Giffen imagined a world in which H.P. Lovecraft’s monsters were real and Lovecraft was the one who documented them. The film will be set in the 1920’s and will show how Lovecraft encounters Cthulhu. It is currently unknown at the moment if the Game of Thrones duo will be directing the film, though they have found writers to bring the DC comic to life.

Lovecraft is set to be written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, who previously wrote The Invitation. The Invitation director Karyn Kusama will be joining the Game of Thrones duo produce Lovecraft for DC. Further details on Lovecraft are slim, as well as the expected capacity of the Game of Thrones creators. The duo, who recently won an Emmy for the eighth season of Game of Thrones, have set up shop at Netflix, so it’s safe to say that they’ll be quite busy for the next few years.

There is no release date or director currently attached to DC’s Lovecraft.
