One of the many bewildering moments in the series finale of Game of Thrones came seconds after Jon Snow killed Daenerys Targaryen in the Red Keep’s Great Hall when Drogon melts the Iron Throne in a fit of rage upon seeing the Dragon Queen’s lifeless body. However, most fans were unsure if Drogon destroyed the throne as a random act in a fit of rage or if the great beast’s actions were a targeted attempt at eliminating the corrupting throne that has cost so many lives.
Now, the Emmy nominated script for the divisive Game of Thrones series finale has been released online and the text clearly explains Drogon’s intentions in the aforementioned sequence. For this scene, the script reads, “We look over Jon’s shoulder as the fire sweeps toward the throne — not the target of Drogon’s wrath, just a dumb bystander caught up in the conflagration.” The next line in the script details how Drogon was intending to burn the brick wall behind the throne, debunking the theory that the dragon was making a conscious decision to ensure the no one would sit on it ever again.
