The first episode of Game of Thrones‘ highly anticipated final season airs this Sunday on HBO. The final Game of Thrones season will run for six episodes and conclude the current storyline. However, HBO is already moving forward on another Game of Thrones series that will take place thousands of years before the current series. Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin is also notoriously working on the final book, which will end differently than the HBO series. While speaking with THR, George R. R. Martin feels he isn’t leaving Westeros anytime soon with all the upcoming projects:
“I don’t think it should be the final season. But here we are. It seems to me we just started last week. Has it been longer than that? The time has passed by in a blur. But it’s exciting. I know it’s an end, but it’s not much of an end for me. I’m still deep in writing the books. We saw five other sequel shows in development. I think I’m going to be hanging around Westeros while everyone else has left. [Laughs].”
When do you think George R. R. Martin will finish the final Game of Thrones book? How do you think the final season will end? Sound off in the comments below!
George R. R. Martin’s best-selling book series “A Song of Ice and Fire” depicts two powerful families — kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars and honest men — all playing a deadly game for control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, and to sit atop the Iron Throne. Winter is coming.
Game of Thrones stars Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister, Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, Kit Harington as Jon Snow, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Liam Cunningham as Ser Davos Seaworth, Carice van Houten as Melisandre, Rory McCann as Sandor “The Hound” Clegane, Maisie Williams as Arya Stark, Conleth Hill as Varys, Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy, John Bradley as Samwell Tarly, Gwendoline Christie as Brienne of Tarth, Kristofer Hivju as Tormund Giantsbane, Isaac Hempstead Wright as Bran Stark, Jerome Flynn as Bronn, Iain Glen as Jorah Mormont, Hannah Murray as Gilly.
Game of Thrones season 8 premieres on April 14, 2019, on HBO.
