How do we know this? Well, Joe Bauer, a visual effects supervisor on Game of Thrones, recently sat down with The Huffington Post to reveal that yes, Ghost will not only be returning for the eighth season of Game of Thrones, but the direwolf will have a significant amount of screen time:
“Oh, you’ll see him again. He has a fair amount of screen time in Season 8. He does show up.”
Okay, so there’s that, but why the absence itself? Well, Bauer mentioned that it’s a bit more difficult to work with real life wolves since, you know, they’re wolves. You don’t want to get any details wrong, after all:
“The direwolves are tough because you don’t want to get them wrong, so we end up always shooting real wolves and doing a scaling trick with them, but the real wolves only behave in certain ways. I think that has something to do with why the direwolves are in the show but they’re not maybe as integral as they are in the books.”
So at the very least, we will get to see Ghost make his return for the final season of Game of Thrones. Would you like any sort of explanation for his absence last time? Let us know in the comments below.
