‘Game Of Thrones’ Prequel Series Won’t Include Targaryen Family Members

Although HBO’s Game of Thrones will air its eighth and final season in April 2019, a prequel series is already in-development, with Academy Award-nominated actress Naomi Watts set to headline the series – which has not been given the greenlight yet. The prequel series is set 5,000 years earlier and will be an interesting new way to explore the lore, but don’t expect to see any members of the Targaryen family to be featured.

Author George R.R. Martin recently revealed this fact about the new series, explaining that Westeros is a significantly different place 5,000 years before the events of the series:

 “… it’s closer to 5,000 years. But you’re right. Westeros is a very different place. There’s no King’s Landing. There’s no Iron Throne. There are no Targaryens — Valyria has hardly begun to rise yet with its dragons and the great empire that it built. We’re dealing with a different and older world and hopefully that will be part of the fun of the series.”

Based off of this information, fans shouldn’t expect to see any dragons in the prequel series if it is fully realized and given a full season order.
