Back in 2014, eagle-eyed fans spotted a coffee cup in a behind-the-scenes featurette for the fourth season episode “The Lion And The Rose.” During the filming of the Purple Wedding in which Joffrey Baratheon married Margaery Tyrell, members of the cast could be seen off camera including Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jamie Lannister, with a craft services coffee cup in hand. The shot itself has been commonly mistaken amongst fans as a shot from the episode itself.
HBO has since issued an official statement on the latest coffee cup incident from this past Sunday’s episode, poking a little fun at the mistake before ultimately erasing the cup from the episode premium cabler.
“In response to inquiries from those who saw a craft services coffee cup in Sunday night’s episode of GAME OF THRONES, HBO states, “The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake. Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea.””
David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill have written the final six episodes which have been directed by David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik, with Benioff and Weiss helming the series finale.
