Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) arrived at the Emmys red carpet yesterday wearing a stunning Valentino gown, blonde hair, and a brand new tattoo. The new ink has special significance for Turner and her Thrones co-star, Maisie Williams (Arya Stark).
The tattoo reads, “07.08.09,” which is the date that both Turner and Williams found out that they had been cast on HBO’s Game of Thrones, which would quickly lead to their lives changing forever.
Turner was asked E! while on the red carpet what prompted this decision and was also asked about the upcoming seventh season.
“We’ve always kind of said we wanted matching tattoos. We don’t know if we’re going to make it, so Maisie and I were like let’s get these ones before anyone kills us…This season is unbelievable. I think fans are going to be really satisfied.”
Game of Thrones had a lot to celebrate during last night’s 68th Primetime Emmy Awards. The show went into the ceremony with 23 nominations and took home 12 awards, including Best Television Drama. With last night’s wins, Thrones Emmy wins total 38, surpassing Frasier as the primetime show with the most wins in award show history.
