Actor Iain Glen recently appeared in an interview with BBC Radio where he was asked about the eighth and final season of the series. He revealed that the secrecy and paranoia in regards to spoilers has never been this heavy before:
“They’re absolutely paranoid now about anyone finding out anything about the series and spoiling it. We weren’t allowed a written word on a page… Everything was accessed through iPads with different security you had to get through to access it. Which caused a problem for the actors, I have to say.”
The level of dedication that the producers of Game of Thrones are exhibiting is comparable to the whole “Mystery Box” technique that J.J. Abrams films typically follow in order to preserve some of the biggest surprises for the audience to see for themselves. Given that the show is finally reaching its conclusion after nearly a decade on the air, it is crucial that every last detail is kept under lock and key and no spoilers are leaked to the general public in advance.
Plot details for the eighth season remain under wraps, however, the final six episodes will serve as a conclusion to the epic series.
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss returned to executive produce the final season alongside Carolyn Strauss, Frank Doelger and Bernadette Caulfield, with Bryan Cogman, Guymon Casady, Vince Gerardis and George R.R. Martin serving as co-executive producers. Benioff, Weiss, Cogman and Dave Hill wrote the final six episodes which have been directed by David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik, with the series finale helmed by Benioff and Weiss.
The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones will premiere in April of 2019. The final six episodes are said to be the longest episodes of the series yet with the production cost is estimated to reach $15 million per episode.
Game of Thrones will be followed by a prequel spin-off which is expected to premiere as early as 2020 and stars Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse (Poldark).
Game of Thrones stars Kit Harington as Jon Snow, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister, Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, Liam Cunningham as Ser Davos Seaworth, Carice van Houten as Melisandre, Rory McCann as Sandor “The Hound” Clegane, Maisie Williams as Arya Stark, Conleth Hill as Varys, Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy, John Bradley as Samwell Tarly, Gwendoline Christie as Brienne of Tarth, Kristofer Hivju as Tormund Giantsbane, Isaac Hempstead Wright as Bran Stark, Jerome Flynn as Bronn, Iain Glen as Jorah Mormont, and Hannah Murray as Gilly.
