‘Game Of Thrones’ Actor On Where We Left Gendry

The seventh season finale of HBO‘s Game of Thrones ended with a bang with the Night King finally toppling the Wall with the assistance of an ice dragon. As epic as it was, the Wall being destroyed left the fate of a few characters up in the air, including Gendry. Business Insider caught up with Ser Davos actor, Liam Cunningham to discuss Gendry.

The last we saw Gendry, he was racing back to the Wall to send a raven back to Daenerys; asking her for assistance in rescuing Jon. The question of his fate then went unanswered after the Wall fell, but Liam Cunningham is here to clear up the situation.

The actor first talked about his reunion with Gendry, one that was five seasons in the making:

“It was incredibly cool. When the scripts came and I read about it I went, “Yeah!” I’d always thought about Gendry as the son that was taken away, Mathos, at the end of season two. Davos did the right thing. Gendry was going to be executed by Melisandre and Davos just couldn’t do it; his moral backbone wouldn’t allow for that to happen.”

Cunningham then went on to speculate where Gendry was when the Wall as he revealed he’s just as much in the dark as audiences are:

“Well I think he’s recovering from his various wounds and whatever. I’d be more worried about “Where is Tormund?” at the end of that last episode. Always leave them wanting more — isn’t that the old entertainment adage? We’ve certainly done that at the end of this magnificent episode… I’m sure we haven’t heard the end of Gendry on this. But I haven’t seen any scripts, and I don’t even know the start date of next season, nevermind having read anything, so I’m speculating as much as anybody else.”
