‘Game Of Thrones’ Star On That Final Scene & Jaime Lannister’s Fate

Following last night’s dramatic episode of Game of Thrones, star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister, sat down with EW to discuss his characters fate.

First,Coster-Waldau talked about that huge Game of Thrones battle and what it was like seeing his character’s men burned alive. He said:

“Even though Daenerys is the hero and the Lannisters are the villains, being burned alive is not great. It’s a terrifying thing when this monster flamethrower comes along and incinerates thousands and thousands of men who are just doing their job.”

Right at the end of the Game of Thrones battle, we see Jaime charge at Daenerys in one final attempt to destroy the Mother of Dragons. We know he is saved from certain incineration at the last moment as he is thrown into the water, but Coster-Waldau noted that the script direction said: “One of our main characters is about to die…” Coster-Landau then gave some insight into what his character might have been thinking in that moment he decided to make a run at ending the battle. He said:

“Jaime is such an idiot that he thinks for a second, ‘If I can do this, I can win the whole thing in a Hail Mary.’”

While Coster-Waldau did not mention if Jaime will survive, he did note that he does not see a bright future for the Game of Thrones character. He noted:

“It’s not going to end well for Jaime Lannister, I can’t imagine.”

Game of Thrones returns next Sunday at 9PM ET on HBO.
