‘Game Of Thrones’: Only The Premiere & The Finale Will Be Longer Episodes

Lots of fans are wondering about how long the second-to-last set of episodes for HBO‘s Game of Thrones will be, given that Season 7 is going to be three episodes shorter than any of the previous seasons. As it turns out, those hoping for longer episodes are bound to be disappointed – only the season finale and the season premiere are going to exceed the usual episode length.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that most episodes for the penultimate season are going to be about the same length as the majority of the episodes that preceded them, with the season premiere and season finale being the only exceptions. In addition, the season premiere will not be the longest ever, but it will still be lengthier than usual at 58 minutes (which puts it just behind the show’s pilot, “Winter Is Coming”, which was 1 hour and 1 minute).

All in all, this actually isn’t too surprising – the showrunners have indicated that this series only has about 13 more hours to it, and if they needed more time than that, then they would have requested more episodes, not fewer episodes with longer average running times. The cast and crew are, after all, paid by the episode. Given that the showrunners have emphasized that quality is going to be their focus here, quantity is most likely not what matters in this equation.
