Martin explained that the five Game of Thrones spinoff shows are moving forward are varying speeds:
“…the five successor shows are moving forward at various rates of speed […] And there are a couple other TV projects that I can’t tell you about… how much of this will come to pass, nobody knows. Ah, the joys of development…”
The four writers developing the projects are Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island), Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Golden Circle), Brian Helgeland (Legend), and Carly Wray (Mad Men, The Leftovers). Game of Thrones executive producers and showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff are attached to all four projects as well.
HBO programming president Casey Bloys recently stated that should any of the spinoffs be selected for production, they will not be premiering anytime soon after Game of Thrones has concluded.
Game of Thrones season seven premieres on HBO on July 16, 2017.
