DC Film's producer Geoff Johns talks about expanded Batman's corner of the universe in the DCEU like they have done in the comics.
During an interview with IGN Live at San Diego Comic Con 2017, DC Films producer Geoff Johns addressed how they are handling the expansion of Batman’s world in the DCEU:
“We haven’t gone out there and said what our slate is and that’s because we’ll do it when we’re ready and we have the films that we’re excited about. But for Batman, what I will say is that Batman is more than just Batman and, you know, it’s been way too long since we’ve seen an expansion of that universe, and Batgirl – we are doing Batgirl with Joss Whedon, it’s going to be super exciting. He’s going to start that next year, and that’s just the start. We want to explore the Batman universe in a very big new way and Matt Reeves is coming on to do Batman now, and we don’t want to do the same thing that has been done before. We want to build it out just like we built it out in the comics.”
This goal of Warner Bros. has become really apparent in the last few months with the announcements of films like Joss Whedon’s Batgirl, LEGO Batman director Chris McKay’s Nightwing, Suicide Squad helmer David Ayer’s Gotham City Sirens, and even the rumored Harley Quinn vs Joker film we heard about yesterday. There are also a ton of other Bat-family characters perfect for the big screen, such as Tim Drake as Robin or Red Robin, Jason Todd’s Red Hood, Damian Wayne’s Robin and Katherine Kane’s Batwoman.
Ben Affleck‘s Batman will next be seen in Justice League where he will be joined by Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Ciaran Hinds as Steppenwolf, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Amber Heard as Mera, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner James Gordon, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielson as Queen Hippolyta, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor.
Justice League hits theaters later this year on November 17, 2017.
