George Clooney Admits ‘Batman & Robin’ Wasn’t A Good Movie

During an interview with People, George Clooney discussed the lessons he learned from portraying the Caped Crusader in the critically lambasted Batman & Robin.

Few need to be reminded of how the financial and critical failure of Batman & Robin put the breaks on the DC hero’s live-action feature film franchise before Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy debuted. Now, George Clooney has opened up about his role in the negative reception towards Batman & Robin and what he learned from the whole experience:

“Now, fair deal: I was playing Batman and I wasn’t good in it, it wasn’t a good film. But what I learned from that failure was that I had to relearn how I was working. Now, I wasn’t just an actor getting a role, I was being held responsible for the film itself.”

George Clooney noted that the response towards Batman & Robin prompted him to make smarter choices when it came to his movie roles:

“So the next three films I did were Three Kings, Out of Sight and O Brother, Where Art Thou? That was a very specific choice for me to find better projects.”

Warner Bros. and DC Films are also developing The Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Cyborg, Supergirl, New Gods, and Nightwing.

The DCEU continues with a standalone Joker film set outside of the DC Films universe starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime on October 4, 2019, Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), on February 7, 2020, and Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020.
