George Lucas Releases Statement Following Carrie Fisher’s Death

It hasn’t been an easy day for Star Wars fans all around the world as we learned today the tragic death of actress Carrie Fisher, who portrayed Princess/General Leia Organa. Friends and family of Fisher have been releasing statements on the passing of the beloved actress. George Lucas, the founder of Lucasfilm and creator of the Star Wars Universe, released a statement today as he pays tribute to his good friend.

“Carrie and I have been friends most of our adult lives. She was extremely smart; a talented actress, writer and comedienne with a very colorful personality that everyone loved.

In Star Wars she was our great and powerful princess — feisty, wise and full of hope in a role that was more difficult than most people might think. My heart and prayers are with Billie, Debbie and all Carrie’s family, friends and fans. She will be missed by all. — George Lucas”

It started on Friday, December 23, when it was reported that the actress had a heart attack while on board a plane from London heading to Los Angeles. United Airlines released a statement that day, saying that Fisher was “unresponsive” when the flight landed in L.A. Once the plane had landed, she was taken to UCLA Medical Center for treatment.
