Anya Taylor-Joy will play a young Furiosa in the prequel.
Despite the poor box office performance of the critically acclaimed Max Mad: Fury Road, George Miller is moving closer towards returning to the franchise once again. The next installment of the Mad Max franchise will instead follow a young Furiosa, who was first introduced in Fury Road and portrayed by Charlize Theron. In Miller’s upcoming prequel, The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy is set to play a young Furiosa.
With a young Furiosa cast, Warner Bros. has now announced that George Miller’s Max Max spin-off will arrive June 23, 2023. In addition to Anya Taylor-Joy headlining the film, Furiosa is also set to star Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II of Aquaman and Watchmen fame.
